At launch, Warzone featured two primary game modes: Battle Royale and Plunder. These game modes were initially playable in a squad capacity of three players ("Trios"); post-launch updates made the modes playable in other squad sizes, such as Solos, Duos and Quads.

As an added layer of security against cheaters in Warzone 2 and Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Infinity Ward asks every player to verify their identity by linking their phone number before they can play.

Activision COD:MW2 has made phone number mandatory to play the game.
